Europe’s top 15 downloads on the Switch eShop for May 2023

In a recent news post sent out to Switch owners, Nintendo provided a listing of the top 15 European eShop downloads for May 2023.

In May 2023, there was a notable increase in software sales, with a growth of 33% compared to the same period the previous year. Additionally, hardware sales experienced a significant surge of 40% year-over-year. This impressive growth can be attributed to the release of the highly anticipated new Zelda game, according to GSD data published on GamesIndustry.biz.

The software data provided by the research firm encompasses physical game sales in major European markets and digital sales from most leading publishers, excluding Nintendo and 505 Games.

Based on three weeks of physical sales alone, Tears of the Kingdom has already claimed the position of Europe’s third best-selling game of 2023, following behind FIFA 23 and the leading title Hogwarts Legacy. Furthermore, it has secured the title of the best-selling boxed game of the year.

In May, the sales of Tears of the Kingdom on the Nintendo Switch surpassed those of Hogwarts Legacy by over 2.5 times. Warner’s title, following the release of its PS4 and Xbox One versions, experienced a significant sales increase of 321% compared to April, securing the second spot for the best-selling game of the previous month.

Unsurprisingly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom debuted at the top spot, and its success also propelled Breath of the Wild to the sixth position.

The complete lineup is as follows:

1. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
2. Minecraft
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
