Sonic Origins Plus’ physical release has new content as separate download code

Potential buyers of the upcoming physical release of Sonic Origins Plus may feel a tinge of disappointment upon learning that not all content is included on the cartridge itself. Recent reports suggest that the additional content is provided in the form of a download code, as indicated by boxes spotted at retailers, including GameStop.

Rest assured, the original core experience will be available directly on the Switch cartridge. However, it seems that all the exciting enhancements introduced in the "Plus" version are linked to an eShop download.

While this may not affect everyone, particularly those who prefer fully digital experiences, it is undoubtedly disappointing news for dedicated collectors. Some fans place value on having all the content conveniently stored on a physical cartridge for preservation purposes.

Sonic Origins Plus expands upon the original multi-game collection from 2022 by including all twelve Sonic Game Gear titles. Additionally, players can enjoy the addition of classic Amy as a playable character in Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Moreover, Sonic CD offers the opportunity to play as Knuckles.

Sonic Origins Plus is set to release on June 23, 2023, in celebration of Sonic's birthday. The game will be available for $39.99, but for those who already own the original release, an upgrade option will be available for $9.99.
